Snow Shoveling Can Increase the Heart Attack Chances in Men

As per a very recent publication in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, it has been found that men are inclined to have a higher risk of heart attacks just after the snowfall. The link in between snowfall and heart attack was considered when a survey was done in the hospitals in Quebec. It was noticed that out of about 128,073 patients being admitted to the hospital, 68,155 died out of heart attack. This was the report between the months of November to April when it snows heavily in this area.

It has also been noticed that though, during snowfall, other factors such as accidents are also responsible for death, the death rate due to the heart is about 60%. Also, it is noticed that the heart attack in women is much lower than men during this time.

On further investigation, it was found that the activity of shoveling the snow is responsible for the heart attacks in men. The assistant clinical professor of the University of Montreal, Nathalie Auger stated that there is a logical reason that snow shoveling increasing the risks of heart attack in men. Snow shoveling involves higher cardiovascular activities. In just need of clearing out the snow, men force themselves to over-pressurize in snow shoveling and hence people who are not fit or averagely fit get heart attacks. It is advised that such men should either use a lighter tool to shovel the snow or should do the shoveling task only as per the comfort zone.
